Jersey, Saint Helier – Cost of Living

The economy of Jersey is largely driven by international financial services & legal services, which accounted for 53% of total GVA in 2007. Other sectors include construction, retail, agriculture, tourism and order fulfillment, such as internet based selling.

Saint Helier is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey and is the capital of the Island (although Government House is situated in St. Saviour). The urban area of the parish of St. Helier makes up most of the largest town in Jersey.

Saint Helier has an overall cost of living index which equates it with high cost of living locations. The overall cost of living index is comprised of the prices for defined quantities of the same goods and services across all 13 Basket Groups.

Aside from its banking and finance underpinnings (and the finance industries supporting industries) Jersey also depends on tourism.
